a tower of stone to take him straight to the sky.

I should be writing a report, but I suck at not getting distracted. I visited the new Utopia store the other day and as I can basically never go in there without buying something, I thought I'd grab this. This is Rainbow's second LP simply titled Rising. For the price of less than a subway sandwhich, I thought it was a bargain. Rainbow were basically a hard rock band established in the 70's by ex-Deep Purple guitarist Ritchie Blackmore. Their first 3 albums featured Mr Ronnie James Dio on vocals, which is what really attracted me to them a couple of years ago. This is probably my second favourite of their albums after their self titled debut, if only because said record contained the song "Catch the Rainbow", my favourite of Dio's career. Having said that though, this album is much more consistant than the hit-and-miss debut. Featuring 6 songs, this clocks in just over the 30 minute mark. The version I have here I believe is the original 1976 press, distributed in Australia by Phonogram Pty Ltd apparently. The cover is the best out of all of theirs by far. This is the gatefold version, unfortunately only containing lyrics to one song, but it is always a laugh looking at photos of the band from this era. Though you can see the vinyl imprint on the rear, the rest of the package, in particular the record itself are in great condition considering their age.
